Ruth’s Shawl

I designed this shawl for my sister to wear to her wedding. We decided on the crescent shape as being both pretty and versatile, with a plain centre and a lacy border. I have always been drawn to the lovely nupps and gathered stitches of Estonian lace knitting, and this is my homage to those traditional patterns.

The shawl can be made using either lace or light fingering weight yarn.

Finished shawl measures 210cm / 82.5in across by 55cm / 21.75in deep.

The green sample is made using:

Easyknits Smoke, 55% Exmoor Blueface, 25% White Wensleydale, 10% Grey Wensleydale, 10% Zwartbles. 100g = 335m / 366yds, 2 skeins.

The pink sample is made using:

Posh Yarn Eva Lace, 55%silk, 45% cashmere. 100g = 700m , 766 yds, 1 skein.

Or subsitute with 570m / 625yds lace or fingering weight yarn. I would recommend choosing yarn that will block well.

17 sts and 26 rows = 10 cm / 4 in in stocking stitch after blocking

4.5mm / US7 circular needles
