This technique is useful for fixing bigger mistakes in your knitting. In this example the yarn overs in the central repeat of the swatch are misaligned and I have managed to knit 12 rows before noticing.

Here you can see that I have made a mistake 3 pattern repeats down – the yarn overs are misaligned. I am going to unravel down across a whole pattern repeat to keep life simple.
Gather your supplies:
Remove the needles from the stitches and unravel the knitting 1 row at a time. Pin the strands out in order. If you want you can pin your knitting on either side of the unravelled section.
Continue unravelling your knitting – the last row will be the one with the mistake on.
Transfer the stitches to the spare needle.
Following your pattern, re-knit the section you have unravelled. Hold the yarn however feels best – it is awkward and I usually end up changing my position several times on a row. At the end of each row you can either slide the needle through to knit the next row on the right side, or you can slip each stitch back to the right hand needle in turn. This second option is more time consuming, but allows you to even out the tension across the row.
Then finished! Either slip the stitches to your main needle, or work directly from the spare.
